SHAKE UP YOUR SENSES
Like many of their friends, Kai and Gi-yeon (German-American husband & wife team, living in Mallorca, Spain) had been searching for a healthier, lower alcohol drink that is simply delicious and refreshing without the headache-inducing substances from wine (high acidity, histamines, sulfites, additives, ..), the bloating feeling you often get from beer or the high ABV and artificial coloring that are part of many spirits and Italian/French aperitifs.
They didn’t quite find it, so in 2023 they started making it themselves!
After visiting Japan, they fell in love with the pure and sophisticated taste of sake. They both went on to graduate from Sake Sommelier classes in London (Wine & Spirit Education Trust, WSET – Level 3 Award in Sake) and Tokyo (Certified Sake Professional).
Kai and Gi-yeon started to blend sake with homegrown oranges and lemons as well as botanicals from their finca in Mallorca to create a refreshing aperitivo with nuances of umami. What started as a quest for a better drinking experience, turned into ZALUD (from the Spanish Salud –cheers, health).
Reimagining aperitifs is at the core of our mission and we are happy to share ZALUD with you – our naturally fermented and refreshing umami aperitivos, crafted with organic Spanish rice, citrus flavors and botanicals from the Mediterranean.
